We have published a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for CheerLights. MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude use outside tools and data. With the CheerLights MCP server, Claude Desktop can read the current CheerLights color and the recent color history straight from the CheerLights API.

Ask Claude About CheerLights
Once the server is connected, ask Claude questions like these:
- “What’s the current CheerLights color?”
- “Show me the last 10 CheerLights color changes.”
Claude calls the server’s tools, the server reads the CheerLights ThingSpeak channel, and Claude answers with the live color or the recent changes.

The code is on GitHub at cheerlights/cheerlights-mcp. The README shows how to add the server to your Claude Desktop configuration.
To build your own MCP server, read Learn How to Create Your Own MCP Server for Claude Desktop and Windsurf. It walks through how this one was made.
